My Bipolar Existence is all about educating those that don’t have any clue about our disorder and those that think they do, can just think again. The site is based on real accounts of people living with Bipolar Disorder and tries to demystify the stigma and untruths about this horrible life altering disease. I welcome you to post comments and to contribute as you see fit.
The site is also about helping each other and offering support where we can.
Hello, my name is Gary Martin. I am an Australian and have Bipolar 1, along with Epilepsy and Frontal Lobe Damage that was a result from a motor vehicle accident. It may very well be that the Epilepsy was also a result of that accident. There is also research to suggest that Epilepsy patients have an increased risk to Bipolar.
I’m developing the site to firstly educate those that have no idea what Bipolar is. Even some in the health sector have little or no knowledge of what Bipolar is all about. There is misleading information that Bipolar is all about Mania and Depression. Truth is there are many forms of Bipolar and not all of them are as plain cut as what you might think.
Bipolar does have the truly tragic ability to destroy lives and relationships, friendships and business. Trust me, I’m learning through experience. Bipolar is not just a mental health issue. Its about brain chemicals, neurotransmitters and physiological symptoms.
Bipolar is also about managing and learning. For the patient its about managing and understanding. For family and friends its much more. Its about realising that we are not “Nuts” or dangerous. That we are human, we have feelings and that when we crash we need help, because we cannot do this by ourselves.
The “normal people” of the world make rules for themselves, and for us “Not so normal” they make a different set of rules. Wake up people and realise that the world isn’t made up of just you. Its also made up of us and we are not stupid. Many famous and intelligent people have Bipolar.
After all it was Winston Churchill that coined the phrase “I have that Black Dog on my heels”. When the world realises that Bipolar isn’t a crime, those of us that suffer from it will gain the acceptence that we deserve.
We greatfully acknowledge the information from the Blackdog Institute and Beyond Blue.

This is a great site. Lots of information, well written and informative. Thanks
Bipolar people get stigmatized all the time. If you don't have a bandage round your head then your not considered ill. Cancer patients get sympathy, bipolar's get shunned. Its through sites like this one that hopefully the world will realize exactly what Bipolar is and does.Good Job!
Im glad you like the site Dr. Thanks for the comment
I found you through blogher and I’m so glad I did. I totally 100% understand…and it’s the reason my husband is no longer on his meds. AFter 36 years of “dealing” with it the meds were “unnatural” to him. And it was weird for me too. I understand the not being unhappy but not being happy either…the complete void of any emotion.
And now I deal with it with my son as well. My thoughts are with you. All of you…because as someone said when one person in the family is dealing with a mental disorder, you all deal with it.
What a lot of people don’t understand is that when someone struggles with a mental illness, such as bi-polar disorder, the whole family shares in the struggles with that disease. I’m sorry you are having such a hard time, and I hope that you find a way to have more good days than bad.

Thanks for sharing, I just wanted to let you know that your blog doesnt show up perfectly on the blackberry browser but I am probably still in a minority of users.
Depressed patients are needed from relatives or friends to support and help, if someone around you suffering from depression, a helping hand to pull them up, it is essential.
in third world countries, mental health is never a priority.;’~
